Galloway’s Society for the Blind provides advice, support, specialist equipment, activities and trips to over 7000 blind and visually impaired people living across Sefton and Lancashire. We do our utmost to help visually impaired people to maintain their independence, rebuild their confidence and minimise the effects of living with reduced vision.
Galloway’s Southport centre helps local blind and partially sighted people living in Sefton. The centre offers a wide range of arts and crafts classes, exercise classes, outdoor pursuits such as climbing, croquet, shooting, driving days and archery, as well as day trips and holidays, both in the UK and abroad. With a fully stocked sight advice centre people can try out a wide range of specialist equipment such as talking clocks, watches, kitchen equipment, lights, magnifiers, audio software and large print materials.
The centre also offers braille lessons, computer lessons and blind awareness training. From their three recording studios charity wide, Galloway’s produce a wide range of talking newspapers and magazines including all the major titles as well as a range of specialist hobby magazines which are sent out free of charge.
Each year Galloway’s needs to raise £1 million to continue running its services. We depend on donations and legacies for the majority of our income. We simply could not operate without our wonderful volunteers and the support of our local community.
Please help us by running the Natterjack Seaside 10k for Galloway’s and we will provide you with a Galloway’s t-shirt, a fund raising pack including advice, support and a sponsorship form. For more information visit www.galloways.org.uk.
